A Roscommon TD is branding tax differences between the North and South of Ireland as scandalous.
The comments come ahead of an increase in Carbon Tax on May 1st which will see home fuels rise by €7.50
.
Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says people shouldn't be blamed for travelling to the North to buy fuel due to substantial price differences.
The Independent TD is calling on the Government to delay next month's tax hike which he believes will hit the most vulnerable.
He instead believes the tax should be added to the aviation industry.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show Deputy Fitzmaurice stated that if a consumer can get a better deal in the North for fuel then they will travel:
"I'm not telling people to go up to the north, to be quite frank about it. What I'm saying is I saw during the weekend a comparison that is absolutely astounding to see the difference.
The reason that this is happening because Mr (Eamon)Ryan and his associates are actually, basically turning over our own people with different taxes compared with what's in the North and that's scandalous."
