A local TD has said speed limit reductions alone won't be enough to make driving safer following another weekend of deaths on Irish roads.
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Transport and Communications Martin Kenny expressed his condolences following the deaths of five people in the past 36 hours.
Communities in Roscommon, Donegal, Louth, Kerry, and Mayo were plunged into sadness following fatal road traffic collisions.
Deputy Kenny also urged people with information to come forward and assist Gardaí with their enquiries after a pedestrian suffered life-changing injuries following a collision in Tipperary.
A total of 144 people have now lost their lives on the country's roads this year.
