A local TD says he's 'astounded' by the decision of two Irish MEPs to abstain on voting for what he described as a new pro-Mercosur EU Commission. Sinn Féin's Martin Kenny called on Independent Ireland MEPs Ciarán Mullooly and Michael McNamara to explain their decision. The Sligo-Leitrim TD said any representative claiming to be a voice for farmers would oppose the deal at every turn. Deputy Kenny accused Independent Ireland of playing fast and loose with the interests of rural people and farmers.
