Sligo Leitrim Deputy Marc MacSharry says he won't necessarily be voting no confidence in the government next week despite his voting against them yesterday over the housing ban.
The Independent TD was one of a number of local Independents including Marian Harkin, and Michael Fitzmaurice who opposed the government's decision to halt the eviction ban at the end of this month.
Roscommon Independent TD Denis Naughten voted with the government as part of the Regional Independent Group's deal on measures to tackle the housing crisis.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, Deputy MacSharry says while he doesn't believe breaking up the government at this point would be helpful he'll reserve his decision on the no confidence motion until next week.
He says though that he will use any leverage that future situations might present for getting more services for the region he represents
"I don't agree with it and I've held a meeting with the government Chief Whip on this matter and gave my views on matters that I would like to see addressed between now and that vote but, that aside, I do not believe in the non-5 year approach to government. I mean do we really want an election at the moment? You call an election now, you'll have a month of campaigning and then you'll have 6 to 12 months in government formation talks. So, we'll deal with votes as they come up next week. If leverage is available when various votes come up we'll certainly try and take advantage of it".
