Many frontline workers across the Shannonside region have not received the government's promised pandemic bonus according to a local TD.
Sinn Fein's Sorca Clarke is calling on the Taoiseach to directly intervene to ensure that both local healthcare and support staff who were on the front line during the pandemic receive their payment.
The opposition TD claims that local workers such as caterers, cleaners, security and agency staff among others have been left in limbo when it comes to registering their eligibility.
According to the Department of Health, over 73,000 HSE staff have been paid the tax-free one thousand euro payment so far.
Speaking to Let's Talk today, Deputy Clarke says many of these people are counting on the bonus to help tackle the increased costs of living:
"Some of these people were reliant on this money, they saw the announcement being made, and they thought that will get the kids back to school or that will cover house insurance or car insurance or something.
Once they heard it, that's something else that I won't have to worry about footing the bill for.
I know personally of someone whose washing machine ended going and it was a case I know this money is coming and in the next couple of months and and I can buy a replacement but those funds simply haven't materialised."
