A local TD has said the new strategy announced by RTÉ earlier this week will be a bitter pill to swallow for some staff. Earlier this week, a new five-year strategy for RTÉ confirmed the broadcaster will reduce its workforce by 20 per cent over the next five years.
The broadcaster will cut 400 jobs over the next five years as part of a plan to secure a €20 million bailout from the government. The 20% reduction in staffing will consist of a voluntary exit programme and is likely to cost around €50 million.
