Roscommon Galway Deputy Claire Kerrane says there's a lot of worry about the weeks and months ahead for people on fixed income or low pay despite the government's package of cost of living supports announced this week.
She says that while the measures announced for pensioners and those on other social welfare payments are to be welcome, many of these won't see the benefits for a few months.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning the Sinn Fein TD and party spokesperson on Social Protection says low paid workers will have little to gain, and her party are not alone in their concerns in how people are going to cope in the face of continued price rises…
'I think it was underwhelming for the general public as I don't think it was enough.
What makes it worse is the fact that what people will now wait for this announcement regarding incomes supports until April , June and July.
There was definitely a feeling straight after that for the worker getting up early in the morning and paying their taxes what's in it for me.
A lot of people say the opposition will say that regardless but homeless charities and lone parent organization have been on about because they are really worried about the months ahead.'
