The Minister for Health is being asked to address issues at the diabetic clinic in Mullingar.
Longford-Westmeath TDs Joe Flaherty and Sorca Clarke raised the issue in the Dail last night after patients were told this week there is uncertainty over the service and it may close at the end of this month.
It's understood that the service's future was called into doubt after the retirement of a diabetic nurse who has deferred her retirement in order to assist patients in the hope her post would be filled before she left.
Junior Health Minister Mary Butler claimed that the closing date for applicants for the role was October 5th and an interview board is being conveyed to hire a new diabetes nursing manager.
