3,500 tenants in the Shannonside region have availed of the Rent Tax Credit in the last 18 months.
The €500 tax credit is available to all renters who have a tenancy registered with the RTB with only renters not availing of other rental support eligible to claim the relief.
3,464 tenants applied for the scheme from 2022 to date.
Roscommon and Longford saw 1,447 and 1,288 tenants using the support, while Leitrim had 729 renters on the scheme.
Nationally, Just 10 per cent of renters have claimed the credit so far this year.
Fianna Fail Senator Mary Fitzpatrick says more communication around the availability of the tax relief is needed:
'I think Government could put in place an awareness campaign to encourage renters to avail of the €500 tax credit.
It would be of benefit to all renters to all renters to take the time and apply for it.'
