The manager of a local women's centre is calling for more resources to be put in place to tackle violence against women.
It comes following the publication of a new Tusla review of accommodation services for victims of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence.
Tara Farrell of Longford Women's Link says while refuge space is one element of addressing the issue more resources are key to implementing the new plan and reaching its targets.
While eight family places will be created in Longford, Tara believes more will be needed.
She hopes once the refuge is opened it will provide a much brighter future for the women of Ireland.
