A Granard company has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála against a decision by Longford County Council to refuse it planning permission for a wind turbine.
Kiernan Milling was refused permission in mid July for the erection of a 169 metre industrial wind turbine at Granardkille, Granard because of its proximity to the historical Granard Motte and Bailey monument which is subject to statutory protection.
The local authority said the turbine would injure the settings of the feature and would likely have a negative impact on the scenic, heritage and cultural value of the area.
Over 30 objectors, including Fáilte Ireland, submitted their views to Longford County Council during the original application and they now have until September 8th to make submissions to the national planning authority on the appeal.
An Bord Pleanála is due to decide on whether to uphold Longford County Council's decision by December 14th.
