People across the Shannonside region are being encouraged to take note of the birds around their locality.
The Irish Garden Bird Survey is Ireland's most popular and longest-running citizen science survey, and is calling for the residents of Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon to take part.
As families spend time at home over the holiday period, BirdWatch Ireland is asking people to spend a short amount of time each week watching their garden birds and recording what they see.
The survey, which runs through the winter months until the end of February, is now in its 35th consecutive year, and up to 2,000 households participate every year.
A total of 121 bird species have been identified across the Shannonside region.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Brian Burke from BirdWatch Ireland, explained that the survey benefits from social media:
