Locals can partake in a special Charlie Bird Hand of Friendship Walk this weekend.
Volunteers from the Midlands and Roscommon have organized a Samaritians walk in Boyle to raise funds for the charity.
Over 2,000 calls were answered last month by the Samaritans in Athlone to give emotional support to the public.
The walk will take place in Lough Key Forest Park at 11 am on Sunday.
Various walking routes will be mapped out, including a 5km walk, as well as shorter, flatter 1km walks suitable for prams and wheelchairs.
Volunteer Anne McGrath believes the charity walk comes at a time when the need for its services is high:
'I can tell you that last month we answered about 2 thousand calls and our phones are constantly ringing and of course people can email us as well.
People have all sorts of problems and we try our best to provide that confidential service.
All out volunteers are well trained so it should not matter who answers the phone to you as you will get somebody who is always willing to listen and plenty of time to talk through issues.'
