Leitrim native Pauline Woods who has lived in the UK for several years was honoured with an MBE this year for her work in campaigning for better services for premature babies and their parents.
Pauline received her award from Princess Anne in March of this year but says she saw the Queen at other events down through the years.
She says she's always bene a great admirer of the Queen and was very sad at the news of her death
''I wrote to her and my grandchildren made cards and pictures to say congratulations on your 70th anniversary. I received a letter from the Queen saying, I send you my grateful thanks for your kind message on occasion of my 70th anniversary. We're never going to see anybody like her again. She just was a fantastic lady.''
Carmel Crehan Creanor who's a native of Roscommon town was asked to design a special scarf as a gift for Queen Elizabeth when she visited UCC in 2011.
She says she was very honoured to have been given the task and had written a letter to the Queen explaining the symbols on the white silk piece.
Carmel says she was very happy to have her letter acknowledged and to be told it was being kept in the Queens personal collection
''I was thrilled. I was absolutely delighted and honoured to be honest with you. It's not every day a commission comes around for any artist actually but a textile artist it's often unusual actually to be asked to produce a gift. I sent off the letter not expecting to get anything back and it was back to me I could not believe this. So they said that it was in her personal connection. So I was thrilled to hear that.''
