Local residents are warning that a flood-affected turlough in County Roscommon is set to reach record levels. Flooding at Lough Funshinagh has already led to destruction of homes and farmland in the area in recent years. A High Court action by an environmental group previously halted flood relief works, which involved the laying of pipe to carry excess water away from the turlough.
Friends of the Irish Environment were successful in their challenge in 2021 to stop works at the turlough, which is a Special Area of Conservation.
