Longford councillor Paraic Brady says he's very concerned that Granard garda station could be downgraded in the coming months.
The Fine Gael councillor says it's his understanding that staff numbers will be reduced in Granard and it will become a substation of Longford later this year.
Under the garda policing plan announced in 2019 the station has been left without a Superintendent based there for the past several months.
Councillor Brady says it's well known that the Granard garda district has had a number of challenges in policing, in common with the Longford district over recent years.
He says the case for retaining Granard as a district headquarters can easily be justified by looking at the figures in relation to court appearances and sentences in the area:
