A new primary health care centre in West Roscommon will not open until 2027 at the earliest. The HSE have confirmed that work will begin on the new Ballaghaderreen Primary Health Care Centre in January. Details released to Councillor Sean Moylan at the most recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum West show that the HSE's contract with the developer requires the commencement of the project by mid January. Should this deadline not be met, the HSE will be required to terminate the contract, leading to further delays in the provision of the facility.
According to the HSE Estates team, the construction and equipping of the centre would take at least 22 months, with the service opening its doors in 2027 at the earliest. The health facility was first proposed back in 2012 while planning permission for the project was granted in 2021. Councillor Moylan says that the healthcare centre cannot afford any more delays:
