A well-known Longford disability activist has been highlighting the inequality of care for those disabilities at the European Parliament this week.
James Cawley Jnr is a longtime campaigner for more supports and rights for those living with a disability.
This week he's joined over 300 disabled people across Europe in Brussels to call for meaningful action from member states in providing independent living supports.
According to the Longford man, hundreds of people with disabilities are currently cared for in inappropriate settings such as nursing homes, leading to them being segregated from society.
James says this is a direct contravention of their human rights.
