Longford and Carrick on Shannon have both been nominated by the Department of Rural and Community Development in the Prestigious Best Kept Large Town and Best Kept Small Town Awards.
The unannounced judging will take place in May and will include areas such as presentation of buildings, appearance of approach roads and streets, presentation of residential areas and natural environments as well as overall tidiness.
The competition includes a small number of villages and towns in the north and south of the country with the winners announced in June.
Longford Tidy Towns Chairperson Michael Keenan says the Tidy Towns and Longford County Council are delighted to be selected following a lot of work in the town.
'The work and time given by volunteers in Longford over the past two years have contributed to this nomination. Up to 80 properties were painted in the town and a lot of this was down to initiatives by Longford Tidy Towns and Longford County Council with great cooperation from people who owns properties and businesses and residents , there's also an emphasis on improving biodiversity and sustainability.''
