A new centre of excellence for athletics in Longford is primed to harness the county's natural talent according to local award-winning runner.
The centre at St Mel's College in Longford will include top-level training infrastructure for multiple different disciplines under the athletics umbrella including long jump, hurdles and high-intensity training.
Following recent consultation with the Diocesan Trust, which owns the property, new plans are being developed to add a 400-metre outdoor running track around the pitch adjoining the centre.
Local Mid distance runner and European Champion Cian McPhillips believes the centre currently under construction in the town will encourage new generations of local athletes to develop their skills.
