Longford based film set to hit Irish & UK cinemas next year

A Longford based film is set to be screened in Irish and UK cinemas next year.

Wildcard Distribution has secured rights to Lakelands, a debut feature by Granard natives Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney.

The movie which was shot at various locations around the county tells the story of a Gaelic footballer who struggles to comes to terms with a career-ending injury.

It's funded by Creative Ireland along with Longford Arts Office, Backstage Theatre and Longford LEO.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Director and Writer Robert Higgins says the support from the local people has been incredible.
