A Longford businessman say he wants to help regenerate the area of Longford town he grew up in and is hopeful his new project will bring people back into the locality.
Work has begun this week on a development which will see a new laneway created in the town as a food and crafts centre.
The laneway will run on vacant land between Herterich Butchers and Wards Pharmacy on Ballymahon Street and will open onto Breaden's Lane on the other side.
It will see Herterichs café expand into an outdoor area on one side, but it's also planned to have a covered area in the centre, and to have various food and craft stalls dotted along its length.
Louis Herterich who's undertaking the project says he's hoping it can be developed into a real attraction for the area.
