Longford CF campaigner Jillian McNulty says she’ll be ‘forever grateful’ to her donor after she underwent a successful kidney transplant in recent weeks.
The Longford woman had been on a waiting list for the past few years, and despite up to 8 people coming forward she hadn’t been able to secure a living donation.
She had posted online about her disappointment about having to be admitted back into hospital in July, and being taken off the waiting list for a time.
Jillian was only hours out of hospital, having been ‘re-listed’ a couple of weeks ago, when she got a call to a Dublin hospital for a transplant operation.
Speaking on the Let’s Talk show today the CF campaigner says she’ll never be able to express her gratitude properly for having received such a precious gift.
Even though this is the happiest time of my life, I'm very conscious of my donors family.
I do think of my donor every single day, and people are probably like 'why does she keep mentioning her donor' but I think it's really important, I wouldn't be...obviously I would be here...but I was getting weaker so I don't know what would have happened.
My life has literally changed overnight , while their family is going through utter heartbreak , and they made such a selfless decision to allow me...to save my life ...while they're in the worst moment of their lives and it's just...it's incredible.
