Leading figures from the worlds of politics and GAA are going to Ballaghaderreen today for John O'Mahony's funeral. It's being held in St Nathy's Cathedral at 12 noon, and will be attended by Taoiseach Simon Harris. O'Mahony, who lived in Ballaghaderreen, died last Saturday at the age of 71.
He led Leitrim to a historic Connacht football title during an illustrious managerial career, and also served as a Fine Gael TD and senator. Fine Gael councillor Paul Ross paid tribute to O'Mahony at a meeting of Longford County Council yesterday:
