Property tax is unlikely to be reduced in Co Longford next year, according to a longstanding Fianna Fáil councillor. Local councillors can increase or reduce local property tax, by up to 15 per cent, from the basic rate set nationally.

Longford councillors have set the rate at 15 per cent above the basic rate for the past five years. The rate for 2025 will be set at their meeting next month - but Councillor Seamus Butler says no change is likely:

Next year's commercial rates for Longford will be set at December's budget meeting. Councillor Butler, who is a well known businessman, doesn't think they should increase:
