Longford County Council has agreed a plan which will create a new access road at one of the county's worst accident black spots.
The local authority approved part 8 planning to develop an access road at the N4 at Cooleeny Shroid at its July meeting held this week.
The junction has been the scene of multiple crashes, including a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old girl in 2015.
The project will now go to design stage, with hopes the works will begin in late 2021 or early 2020.
