A Longford councillor has addressed public concerns over council regulations allowing only one dog per local authority house.
The Council is currently updating the rules and regulations that tenants of council homes are expected to abide by - as well as the obligations on the Council to the householder.
One such rule is that local authority housing is limiting tenants to one pet dog per property, a rule that's led to significant backlash from members of the public over the last week.
Councillor Gerry Warnock has moved to calm pet owner fears and has told Shannonside Northern Sound News that the regulations are to allow the council to remove dogs in cases of severe nuisance or animal abuse.
Speaking on 'Let's Talk' today, Councillor Warnock says he has been assured by council officials that the rule will not be enforced on proactive basis.
