Longford councillor Paul Ross is asking parents dropping their children to school in Edgeworthstown not to try U-turns on the N55.
He said he's watched a number of cars taking the risk after dropping their children to a school or bus in the town on Wednesday morning of this week.
An issue arose this week when bollards were installed to protect a cycle lane which has been developed near the school and drop-off point.
The Fine Gael councillor says the council agreed to remove the outer row of bollards to allow buses to park safely after an early morning meeting at the site this week.
Councillor Ross says they're also talking to the primary school to try to get some kind of arrangement to allow parents to use it to drop off children for the buses to Granard there.
He says in the meantime though parents also have to take some personal responsibility for their behaviour at the busy site.
"When we were there we did see some cars who dropped kids beside the busses and then do a U-turn on the N55. I would say to parents they have to accept their own responsibility. It's not safe to drop kids off on the side of a national primary road next to a bus and then do a U-turn. That's just not acceptable. i am happy that the council removed the bollards that day. These cycle ways are trying to make safe corridors for kids to cycle to school and for parents to allow their kids to cycle to school. It's something new".
