A local councillor is calling for the installation of dog poo bins along a well known walkway.
The issue came before the most recent meeting of the Longford Municipal District.
Councillor Gerry Warnock explained in his motion that bins need to be installed along the Longford Canal Walkway to tackle the issue of dog fouling.
The motion was supported and it will come before the next meeting of Longford County Council to be officially ratified
He says that the bins' introduction in 'The Mall' area of the town has helped but dog owners also need to be responsible.
''It's definitely a persistent problem on that walkway, we do have these bins in The Mall and they seem to work very well and the problem isn't near as emphasised as it is on The Canal Walkway, it does come down to personal responsibility and it's up to the owners to clean up after their pets.''
