A Longford Councillor is calling for new bylaws to tackle what he calls the 'scourge' of Escooters and bicycles being used on footpaths in the town.
Councillor Seamus Butler says many pedestrians are frightened at the speed of the vehicles passing them on paths.
Later today Councillor Butler will submit a motion to the July meeting of the Longford Municipal District calling for the banning of all bicycles, quad bikes and scooters, motorised or self- propelled, from Longford's footpaths for anyone over the age of 12.
The improper use of scooters and bikes in Longford is already the focus of a new Garda operation, with local community Gardaí seizing the items following repeated breaches.
