A Longford councillor is calling for local authorities to be trusted more when it comes to delivering on roads projects in their areas.
Part of the conditions attached to councils getting funding for roads under the National Grants schemes and capital schemes involves the appointment of consultants to the projects.
Councillor Gerry Warnock says that much needed road projects can often be delayed unnecessarily as a result of that condition.

He says councils have a wealth of expertise in their own teams of engineers and they would be less costly and more efficient.
