Longford town Councillor Peggy Nolan is calling on the HSE to work with local authorities to set up community vaccination centres in each of the three electoral areas in the county.
The Fine Gael councillor says local GP's and pharmacists could work together in the centres to vaccinate all older people in the areas without them being asked to travel long distances.
Councillor Nolan says the HSE doesn't appear to have any concrete plans on how the vaccines will be given to older people, other than to talk about centres in the bigger towns across the region like Athlone or Mullingar.
She says even if a centre is set up in Longford, there should also be one in the north and south of the county to allow people get the vaccination in the safest way possible.
