Longford Fine Gael councillor Peggy Nolan is condemning plans to close the existing MIDOC Out of Hours GP service from the 1st of January.
It's understood that a statement has been issued to a media outlet in Laois outlining that the HSE has been engaging with MIDOC for a number of months on financial challenges it is facing, and that it has put in place 'appropriate cover' in the short term from the 1st of January.
In a statment issued this eveing Councillor Nolan said it had come to her attention today (Dec 24th) that the out of hours Midoc services which covers Longford ,Westmeath ,Laois and Offaly are under threat of closure.
She said this would add further chaos to an already over stretched emergency service .
The Fine Gael councillor said the cuts were discovered on Christmas Eve when all relevant personnel 'are unavailable for escalation of this crucial issue' .
A tweet from Longford Fianna Fail Deputy Joe Flaherty states that he has 'received assurances the service will continue to operate as normal but under a different name.'
