Funds recovered in a Criminal Assets Bureau investigation into a Longford based organised crime gang must repair the damage they've caused locally. That's according to Local Councillor Seamus Butler after CAB last week took possession of a number of properties and items in Longford, Leitrim and Kildare connected with the group. The operations were targeted at dismantling a Longford based Organised Crime Group involved in the sale and supply of drugs, and serious feud related activity in Ireland.
Homes, cars, trailers and designer clothes along with cash, gold and bank accounts were seized in the raids late last week. The properties and items seized will eventually be sold by private treaty or public auction and the money returned to the taxpayer through the Central Fund. Councillor Butler is calling for Longford to receive priority in the awarding of the funds in order to repair the damage caused by the locally based gang:
