Longford councillor Seamus Butler says he hopes an 'Open Letter' sent to the Justice Minister and Garda Commissioner about violence in Longford will have some impact.
The Fianna Fail councillor, who's also vice-chair of the Local Community Safety Partnership says the letter has widespread support across all sections of the local community and from all political sides.
The letter appeals for more garda resources and for a review of bail and sentencing for repeat offenders.
Councillor Butler says the resurgence of violence in the town over the last three months has left a lot of people seriously concerned, and while some form of a march had been suggested as a protest, it was felt the 'Open Letter' approach might work better.
