A north Longford councillor has received a nomination to contest next year's Seanad election.
Fine Gael's Paraic Brady received the nomination from the National Association of Regional Game Councils to contest the election on the Agriculture panel.
The Drumlish farmer previously said he made the decision following his canvassing for party colleague Micheál Carrigy in the general election.
He says the concerns raised on the doorsteps on rural issues pushed him to seek a seat in the Upper House of the Oireachtas.
The elections will take place early in the new year with the deadline for nominations at the end of December.
