Longford councillor Paraic Brady is set to take a seat in the Seanad.
Four people have already been elected on the agricultural panel, with seven seats left to be filled.
Councillor Brady, from Fine Gael, is leading the way of the remaining candidates.
Councillor Brady believes he’ll be over the line soon.
Roscommon senator Eugene Murphy and Ballinasloe senator Aisling Dolan have lost out, along with Leitrim council cathaoirleach Paddy O'Rourke.
It ends Murphy’s 40-year streak of unbroken service as a public representative.
He quit Fianna Fail last November after they refused to allow him to run in the general election.
Former Roscommon council cathaoirleach Michael Scally has been reacting to Murphy’s defeat.
