The Criminal Assets Bureau had 321 reports from members of the public about potential targets last year.
The Garda Commissioner says Good Citizen Reports play a significant role in bringing criminals to the attention of CAB.
The bureau stopped almost 11 million euro ending up in the hands of crime gangs and individuals last year.
Longford's high level of CAB investigations is proof the tide is turning when it comes to challenging organised crime in the county.
That's according to local Independent Councillor Gerry Warnock who has previously called for the proceeds of illegal activity seized by CAB to be allocated to local causes.
The Roscommon Longford Garda division had the third-highest level in Criminal Assets Bureau investigations outside of Dublin last year.
Speaking to Let's Talk today, Councillor Warnock says all stakeholders in the county need to continue the push to tackle crime in the region:
"CAB are getting on board and the way we have to operate with dealing with criminality locally , it's definitely a carrot and a stick vibe, and CAB are a very big stick to be able to pull out.
It's a thing that no-one wants to be dealing with but we have to be real about things.
There is a lot of criminal activity within the area, particularly in the last number of years and we have to put whatever measures we have at our disposal to counter that level of activity."
