Longford county councillors have expressed concern at the lack of registered tourist accommodation in the county.
Councillor Seamus Butler expressed concern that only 3 B&B's, 3 guesthouses, 3 hotels, and 2 self catering hotels were included in the plan and registered with Fáilte Ireland.
He said that there are 61 Airbnb's in the county and these should be considered alongside the registered accommodation.
Councillor Gerry Warnock also argued that the lack of accommodation was leaving revenue 'on the table' for the surrounding counties
Concern was also expressed that some attractions were not highlighted enough, including Corlea Trackway and the north Longford rebel trail.
Director of services, Michael Nevin, acknowledged the lack of accomodation in the county but said the plan was heavily supported by Failte Ireland which requires them to only use registered accomodation
He explained that accommodation providers should be encouraged to register with Fáilte Ireland, and attempts to attract a new hotel to the region were unsuccessful a number of years ago.
Councillor Garry Murtagh also raised the issue of Knights and Conquests, stating that the project could deliver so much more to the area.
Michael Nevin responded saying although there have been funding issues, the council are committed to delivering on Knights and Conquests and other strategic projects in the near future.
