The Transport Minister has reassured local councillors that the N4 Mullingar to Longford Upgrade project will not be shelved.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan made the comment at today's launch of the EU Just Transition Fund at Corlea Trackway Visitor centre in Longford.
Minister Ryan stood by previous comments that while the project will not be shelved, it's not a current priority of his department. The Minister met with local representatives at Longford County Council this afternoon, with councillors raising the importance of the project when it comes to road safety and economic development.
Speaking to Shannonside News, Eamon Ryan says the focus remains for now on town bypasses, rural public transport and rail network rejuvenation.
''I think it is really important that we sit down in central government and listen to local councils and the executive. This is to find out what exactly what is happening on the ground and share ideas in terms of where we are going next. No project has been shelved or being stopped completely but we do have to priorities and in that investment it will be in by passes and bringing life back into towns and investing in rural public transport.''
