An OPW representative due to meet with Longford Councillors on Monday will be told that no houses will built on the former greyhound track in the town.
That's the promise of independent councillor Gerry Warnock, who's organised a public campaign against the installation of modular homes on the council owned site.
The Greyhound Track was one of three sites provided by Longford County Council to the Office of Public Works for the potential building of the rapid build homes for refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.
The site has been earmarked for a skate park and mini harbour, with local representatives also calling for playing pitches to be developed at the property.
Speaking at the meeting last night, Councillor Warnock told Shannonside FM that local councillors will send an untied message at next week's meeting.
"Well the message is going to be loud and clear and it's the same message the people of Longford gave here tonight. Not a wendy house will be built on Longford Greyhound Track and that will be the tone of the debate I will be having with those officials and I will be holding that line. The other officials of Longford Municipal District will be right behind me".
