Town regeneration officer for Longford County Council, Lorraine O'Connor, says that should everything go to plan, we could see works begin at the end of next year.

Fianna Fáil councillor Seamus Butler said it was an 'expansionary budget', increasing by 7 million euro from 2024.

County planners will decide on the application later this year.

The council is due to decide next month whether to give the proposals the go-ahead.
