Longford County Council says it has not refused any applications for certificates of exemption for the ownership of XL Bully type dogs. A statement from the local authority confirmed that there are a total of eight XL Bullies registered with the county's dog warden. It said eight applications were received and four exemptions have so far been granted.
Four other applications are at various stages of the process, it added. Since the start of this month it has been illegal to own an XL Bully type dog without an exemption issued by a local council. The regulations were introduced in October of last year and prohibit the importing, breeding, selling and re-homing of XL Bullies.
