A North Longford councillor is calling for a further review of the county Winter Maintenance plan after what he's described as possibly the most dangerous road in the county being left off the salting list.
Councillors attending the monthly meeting of the local authority this week were given details of the plan to salt the county's roads this winter and were told that it would be possible for an additional 18.2 kilometres of road to be done.
Councillor Garry Murtagh said he was dismayed to see a 12 kilometres stretch of road between Aughadowry, Aughnacliffe and Esker still left off the salting list despite years of appeals from local public representatives on the issue.
Director of Services John Brannigan told the meeting the council already salts a higher proportion of roads in the north of the county than in the other areas, but they are constrained by funds and the salting capacity of the trucks.
Councillor Garry Murtagh says he's very disappointed the route is not included, and people who live and travel on it daily will be equally unhappy.
