Longford County Council says fines will be issued to people caught dumping bottles at bottle banks throughout the county over the Christmas period.
With the volume of people socialising at home this year, Environment Officer Gary Brady says people may find some banks full when they go to them.
He says while waste management companies will be emptying banks between Christmas and New Year, he's appealing to people who find their local banks full to find another amenity nearby or take empties home until another day.
He says CCTV will be in operation, and they will reluctantly be monitoring those who flout the litter byelaws:
