A Cavan councillor says she believes driving test waiting times in Longford and Cavan are being adversely affected by applications from Dublin.
Aontú's Sarah O Reilly says she began getting information about waiting times locally after she was contacted by a young man who had been fined for driving unaccompanied to work, even though he had applied months before to sit his test.
Cavan has a waiting time of up to 4 months at present, while the waiting time is Longford is around 14 weeks.
The Cavan councillor is concerned that 'commuter areas' like Longford and Cavan are falling victim to applicants from Dublin where the waiting lists are even longer.
'This is affecting rural people who need private transport more than people in Dublin we'll say who have a lot of public service and a lot of public transport so the rural young girls and boys really need to have their driving test. I wouldn't like to think that our system is being clogged up by people from Dublin seeking to jump the queue.'
