The Longford farmer who's chairing the Fodder and Food Security Committee is hoping a series of straightforward measures can help to tackle concerns for the agri sector.
The group which represents over 30 organisations was set up in recent weeks to support the national response to the unfolding feed, fertiliser, and energy supply issues created by the war in Ukraine.
The role of the group which meets in full for the first time tomorrow will be to develop contingency plans and advice to help farmers in managing their enterprise through this volatile period.
The initial focus will be on steps that are time critical and that need to be taken in the short term.
Dairy farmer Mike Magan says he hopes the committee will be able to give farmers simple but straightforward advice on how to get the best out of any remaining stocks of feed or fertiliser, while at the same time helping them plan carefully for the coming months.
He says other measures that can be helped by government would be incentives and schemes to grow more grain and feed crops on lands that may not have been used for this before.
