Garda in Longford are urging the public to be aware o f a recurrence of a phone scam in recent days.
People have reported that they have been contacted by a recorded message claiming they owe a state agency, such as gardaí or the HSE, a sum on money and they need to pass on their personal banking details.
Gardai in Longford are asking people who may receive calls such as this not to engage and not to disclose any personal information.

Gardai are warning the public of fraudsters ringing people and claiming to be members of the force.
The number calling appears to be the phone number of a genuine Garda station and the scammer looks for personal information or tells the person their details have been linked to a crime.
After giving over personal details the victim gets a follow up call from another scammer seeking more information on behalf of the gardai.
An Garda Síochána will never make contact with members of the public in this way and is advising people not to engage with the caller or return the call.
