Longford Gardaí have praised a local training initiative designed to bring together state and community organisations in dealing with domestic abuse.
Organised by Longford Women's Link, the event brings together 147 participants from 35 agencies including Gardaí, Tusla, The HSE and the Prison Service.
It's part of the new Interagency Working Group Model established recently to introduce best practices across the board when it comes to helping victims of domestic violence.
A range of speakers have been addressing attendees at the conference taking place today and tomorrow at Longford Rugby Club.
Speaking to Shannonside FM this morning, Garda Superintendent Seamus Boyle paid tribute to the work done by Longford Women's Link in tackling domestic abuse and helping victims:
'The support that the women's link give these people who help them go through the court process and support them with their problems is fantastic. It is something that An Garda Siochana would not be able to do. We don't have the resources to do it and I am just full of admiration for the people in Longford's Women's Link and organisation like that around the country.'
