Longford Gardai have been praised for their quick response after a man was arrested following an armed robbery at a Longford primary school.
The man in his 30s remains in Garda custody after a screwdriver was used in the incident which occurred at 7pm on Thursday evening.
The board of management were hosting a meeting when the 38-year-old bust into the room and demanded money.
He escaped with cash but was arrested by gardaí a short while later and remains in garda custody this lunchtime
As part of their investigations, detectives are looking to speak to the driver of a van who may have been flagged down in the aftermath of an the incident Chapel Street area of Longford yesterday
Chair of Longford's Joint Policing Committee and Councillor Seamus Butler has described the incident as a 'crazy act'
